I signed up for SIAM CSE15 BE program because of my need to interact with peers, exchange ideas, ask a lot of questions and eventually get new ideas to implement for my career goals. It really was an amazing experience. I had a wonderful conference experience, I enjoyed the career and professional development, and I loved the mentoring activities through the Broader Engagement (BE) program.
This experience was transformative–both professionally and personally. I went home empowered. Not only did the experience provide me with an opportunity to make a change/make a difference in the lives of students, but it also provided me the opportunity to grow and learn about myself as a research faculty and as a person.
The “Wilderness” craft project had an interesting and good impact on my mentoring experience. I helped me make a better connection with my mentor, and made us see some similarities in our personal/professional lives. I absolutely recommend this workshop to my colleagues and students.
This kind of program is something that should, and hopefully will remain, and I wish you a lot of success as you continue to bring it forward.
