Kristen’s journey in STEM has been driven by lifelong learning and a commitment to making science, and the world as a whole, more accessible and impactful. She began by earning a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in physics education from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After teaching high school physics for two years, she was awarded a STAR fellowship at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where she conducted research on exoplanet atmospheres using spectroscopy—an experience that ignited her passion for scientific discovery and research.
Her time at JPL evolved into a dynamic career supporting Earth science research, eventually leading her to become a Science Systems Engineer. In this role, Kristen brought together cross-disciplinary teams working on groundbreaking satellite and telescope missions in both Earth science and astrophysics. She thrived at the intersection of scientific innovation and project management, contributing to multi-million dollar initiatives with real time impact.
In 2020, Kristen followed her heart into the world of animal welfare, founding a non-profit organization that has since saved the lives of over 1,000 animals. This endeavor speaks to her core belief in using data, strategy, and compassion to make the world a better place.
In 2025, Kristen joined Sustainable Horizons Institute, bringing with her this unique blend of experience in education, research, administration, and nonprofit leadership. She is excited to contribute to the Institute’s mission of expanding access and opportunity in STEM, and to help shape a more inclusive future.
