Malena Espanol, University of Akron

As  an applied mathematician working on materials science and image processing,  I participated in the SRP Workshop twice. In both opportunities I had a great experience and I was able to coordinate with researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) to send undergraduate students to work there during the summer. The students applied to the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program sponsored by DOE, to obtain funding. The application process was very easy and done with the help of the LBNL researchers. It was an excellent experience for my students at The University of Akron and myself. It was a great opportunity to meet LBNL researchers but also the other SRP participants! I would highly recommend it to any math faculty, especially to those who do not know anybody at a national lab, it might be the start of a great research collaboration!
