SRP Team Featured on Panel Led by Department of Energy Secretary

Dr. Richard Lombardini and graduate student Ricardo Zamora from St. Mary’s University participated in the 2020 SRP Workshop and were funded through the Department of Energy (DOE) Visiting Faculty Program to conduct research with Dr. Revathi Jambunathan at Berkeley Lab through SRP. The team was invited to participate in DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s panel on “Celebrating our Future STEM Leaders”. The DOE Office of Science awarded nearly 1,000 faculty and undergraduate and graduate students with funds to further their research.

Dr. Lomardini and Mr. Zamora were especially grateful to be a part of the distinguished panel that focused on amplifying the voices of faculty and students who come from under-represented institutions. Ricardo shared, “I want to use this research experience to show my peers that your passion can take you to far places that you never imagined going. I would never imagine [being a] part of a research experience with the Department of Energy…despite our circumstances growing up and the adversity we face, we can achieve great heights in what we want to do”. During the session, Dr. Lombardini advised the audience to, “continually look for organizations that provide research opportunities such as the Sustainable Research Pathways Program which is the program that helped Ricardo and I to get into this Visiting Faculty Program at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.” Click the video below to view the full session.
