Name: Arturo Gonzalez
Pronouns:

Institution: University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley
Department: Computer Science

Biography:
Hello, my name is Arturo Gonzalez, as a senior in college with an accelerated academic journey, having graduated high school with my associates, I have exhibited a remarkable enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge. I have enjoyed my academic journey thus far and found it was best to complement it with experience in my field. So far, I have had the blessing of completing a research opportunity for undergraduates(reu) and also the opportunity of joining my university professor as a research assistant. This experience has enabled me to keep exploring further possibilities in the non industry world of computer science. It has been a journey that hasn’t been easy by any means, but it has demonstrated challenges in which have shaped me and the person that I am today.

Please describe your research/academic interests:
Computational and Data Sciences, Robotics, Computer Sciences

Computational and Data Science Areas:
Computer Science; Data Analytics and Visualization; Machine Learning and AI

Research Synergy:
With my current experience being mainly in robotics, I am interested in other areas as well such as computational, AI/machine learning, and data sciences since they are the future in this evolving world. Computational and data sciences have the power to revolutionize scientific discovery and advancement across various disciplines. The DOE labs are at the forefront of scientific research offering a unique environment where experts from diverse fields come together to tackle complex challenges. My interest in computational sciences and AI/machine learning stems from their inherently interdisciplinary nature. These fields bridge applied mathematics, computer science, and data science, allowing for collaboration across a wide range of scientific domains. This aligns perfectly with the collaborative ethos of the DOE labs, where researchers from different backgrounds work together to address pressing national and global issues. Through solving these issues, we be able to apply these techniques to address real-world problems.

Motivation:
My main motivation to participate in this program is to continue my passion of research. My current experience has enabled me to keep exploring computational and data science as they are a huge part of the future. I would love to contribute to a future world where technology is being used with efficiency and power. Being left out of this revolution feels like a big regret in my own future life. Not to mention, working with these top labs and faculty that are all passionate in making an impact through computational and data sciences is only something an uprising researcher like me could dream of. Passion fuels action. For this reason, I not only believe that I will benefit from the program, but perhaps this program could also benefit from having me.
