Building Engagement (BE) was created for people from all walks of life in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage participation and cooperation within the scientific community. Beginning in 2015, Sustainable Horizons Institute (SHI) has organized programs at the bi-annual Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Conferences on Computational Science and Engineering. We are excited to bring BE to Pittsburgh, PA for the Winter 2027 conference, February 21, 2027 through February 26, 2027!
During the week-long conference, participants attend a rich scientific program that includes numerous interdisciplinary technical sessions, plenaries, and discussions that help advance knowledge and skill sets. The program also fosters a sense of belonging in the community through a program orientation, mentoring, small learning groups known as “Guided Affinity Groups,” and motivational workshops/activities.

- Support the development of basic science, innovation, and national security ecosystems for all
- Engage & support participation by individuals from all different backgrounds across the U.S.
- Stimulate a welcoming and more innovative professional society
- Help students navigate academic and career paths
