Carol has a strong background in fund and resource development for the non-profit sector. She has been Development Director for The Nest Center for Women, Children, and Families in Lexington, KY, and served as Executive Director of Family Counseling Service, Inc. in Lexington, KY. She worked for the University of Kentucky College of Social Work for over fourteen years as a consultant to national programming in communities and states concerning the issues of family strengthening, child maltreatment prevention, program development, implementation, and evaluation. She is a speaker and workshop provider in the areas of humor, family well-being, integrity, and leadership development. Creating and utilizing an innovative process, Carol leads boards of organizations and communities in visioning their best futures and developing mission statements and operating principles to reflect those visions. She is a certified Enneagram Teacher uses the Enneagram in all her work.
She taught sociology as adjunct faculty at Murray State University, University of Tennessee-Martin, University of Kentucky, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, KY.
Carol was a member of the Humanity Academy at UK, on the board of directors of Strengthening Kentucky Families at Kentucky State University, and was a chairperson and trainer for the Kentucky Race, Community, and Child Welfare Initiative. In 2012, she was awarded the Kentucky Foundation for Women Artist-In-Residence Fellowship.
In 2013 Carol semi-retired from her career in Kentucky, moved to Ames, IA and began a new career as a House Director to the Iowa State University Greek Community. She served on the ISU Greek Life Strategic Planning Group. She currently serves as House Director for Chi Omega Sorority, Eta Beta Chapter in Ames, IA.
Carol earned the Master of Science degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State University in 1989.
She has one son, Caleb Orion Brown, who is married to Angela C. Erikson. They both work and reside in the Washington, DC. area. In her spare time, Carol writes, paints, swims daily, and has a really great time!
