Guided Affinity Group: Juliane Mueller – Operations Research/Optimization

Institution/Organization: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab

Research Area/Department/Major (check as many as appropriate):

  • Applied Mathematics
  • Computational Operations Research
  • Operations Research

What conference theme areas are you interested in (check all that apply):

  • Surrogate and Reduced-order Modeling

Research Interests:
optimization algorithm development for problems with computationally expensive blackbox functions; simulation optimization

Guided Affinity Group Description:

This guided affinity group will explore MS213 and MS239 minisymposia on engineering applications of derivative free optimization.  Dr. Mueller will explain some basics of what optimization is and what computational hurdles we run into when large simulation models are involved.

Pre-session discussion:  Thursday from 9 am – 10:00 am, Room 406/407

Post-Session Discussion: Thursday, 3:55-4:25 pm, Room 406/407
