Name: Ololade Sowunmi
Pronouns:
Institution: Florida State University
Department: Mathematics
Biography:
Ololade Sowunmi is in the second year of his doctorate program, studying financial mathematics at the Florida State University. A young international student with an extraordinary interest in research, he currently works under the tutelage of Dr Feng Bao on topics that include machine and deep learning, neural network (with a little more focus on stochastic neural networks). His research interests also include stochastic optimal control, stochastic differential equations, with a sharp interest on backward stochastic differential equations. Ololade is grounded in the fundamentals of mathematics, with a bachelors degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, he also bagged two masters degree in mathematical engineering from Europe; one from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, and the other from the Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic. He is adept in the use of various popular programming languages such as python, C++, MATLAB, and even the not-so-popular languages such as GAMS and MAGMA. Currently, he serves on the FSU main campus as a graduate teaching assistant, teaching classes that include precalculus, trigonometry and business calculus. He lives in Tallahassee, Florida, and when you do not find him busy with mathematical problems, you can find him playing chess, soccer or a musical instrument.

Foundation of Computational Mathematics 1 and 2 Digital Signal Processing Financial Engineering Numerical Optimization
Have you published any research or worked on research/technical projects? No
Where has your research been published or where have you conducted research/technical projects?
Please describe your research/academic interests:
Currently, my research interests include scientific machine learning, with an interest in deep neural network and stochastic neural network. I am heavily interested in Scientific Machine Learning. I am currently also working on high frequency trading problems with high dimensional data and low sample size.
Computational and Data Science Areas:
Applied Mathematics; Computational Science Applications, i.e., Bioscience, Cosmology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Nanotechnology, Climate, etc.; Data Analytics and Visualization; High-Performance Computing; Machine Learning and AI; Quantum Computing and Information Science
Research Synergy:
I have worked on a machine learning problem in my last internship at the Oak Ridge national laboratory. It was eye-opening and I really learnt a lot. I would like to continue that learning process and I would love to continue the hands-on practical experience in the world of computing and computational sciences especially data analytics and machine learning. At ORNL, I took a course on HPC and made use of the Summit supercomputer, this added to my knowledge tank and I would like to add even more knowledge working with high dimensional data for predictive analysis.
Motivation:
I have studied mathematics all my life, and I have become very familiar with the theories and ideas of computational mathematics, numerical optimization, machine learning and data science. I am more interested in applying these theories to real-world applications. Currently, my research has been on a number of topics, including but not limited to deep neural network, (more specifically stochastic neural network), optimal filtering, stochastic optimal control . These research ideas have a wide range of practical applications and I desire to see these applications in real time. The reality is that a national laboratory is equipped with all the resources necessary to achieve success in this regard and I am ready to be a part of a team keen on using these ideas to solve real world problems. I believe in results, and so I am certain that that working alongside a team of brilliant minds will bring about novel solutions that will be vital in making our world a little better. This is why I am excited to participate in this program.
