Biography:
Greetings, my name is Qimora Mason! I am a 2nd year Computer Science and Mathematics student from Allentown Pennsylvania. I am very passionate and love to learn new things and becoming more knowledgeable in a topic that I am very invested in. After I graduate, I do want to get into more machine learning and data engineering. After my recent internship, I’ve been very passionate about machine learning and the many computer vision techniques that I’ve learnt and I am willing to learn more.

What courses or academic preparation have you completed to prepare for a summer internship experience?
Programming 1 Programming 2 Data Structures C++ Programming

Have you published any research or worked on research/technical projects? Yes
Where has your research been published or where have you conducted research/technical projects? Yes, I have worked on a Facial Recognition project at the University of Virginia over the summer. We’ve created a machine learning model using Open-CV and Computer Vision techniques to predict bias and fairness in race, we wanted to see if we could aim for a high accuracy percentage for those who are minorities. In the first test the accuracy was 0.43% and in the second test the accuracy was 0.87%

Please describe your research/academic interests:
Machine Learning Artificial Intelligence Computer Vision Mathematics

Computational and Data Science Areas:
Computer Science; Machine Learning and AI

Research Synergy:
I am interested in computational, AI/machine learning and data science research, it has sparked interest in me especially after my internship at UVA over the summer. While creating machine learning models and learning new skills and techniques of computer vision and deep learning has helped me progress especially in Python. Learning and developing new machine learning skills is something that I want to go further into as I reach my end goal after school.

Motivation:
I am very honored and motivated to learn more about this program. I believe It’ll be a great research experience that’ll help me generate more knowledge on a more computational research path and motivate me throughout my journey. Especially while working with other students in a lab setting, I believe It’ll be an amazing experience as I make connections and network with many peers and mentors.
