Welcome to the Building Engagement program organized the by Sustainable Horizons Institute and held at the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Computational Science and Engineering conference (BE@CSE25) participant information page.
BE came to the SIAM conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) in 2015 and SHI has organized BE programs at all SIAM CSE conferences since then. Due to its popularity, BE has expanded to MDS. We appreciate the amazing partnership with SIAM and how welcoming they have been to SHI and to all BE participants. BE@CSE invites the broader community to participate, learn about, join us in creating a welcoming community for all.
BE@CSE25 takes place during the week-long conference and offers valuable experiences, such as interdisciplinary technical sessions, plenaries, and discussions. In all, the program provides students with more profound knowledge, the development of new skills, and the opportunity to develop a sense of belonging within the STEM and CSE community through mentorship, Guided Affinity Groups, and workshops.

Guided Affinity GroupS (GAGs) are designed to help students get more out of SIAM CSE conference sessions. Led by CSE volunteer community members, learning groups explore conference topics from an entry level perspective by meeting prior to the conference session, attending the conference session together, and then meeting afterwards. BE attendees will meet with affinity group leads virtually prior to the conference and then meet daily with leads. Attendees will provide a 5-10 minute presentation on what was discovered and learned from the experience at the BE Wrap up session. All conference attendees are invited to attend the morning affinity group stand-ups and participate in expanding the educational experience of our BE attendees.
