Biography:
I am Julio Cesar Paez. I am currently a student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) pursuing a PhD in Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications. I am part of the first cohort of students that joined this new program establish in the Fall of 2021. I have lived in Brownsville, the southern peak Texas, since I moved to the United States with my family when I was a child. My academic performance has always been strong, and I even started attending college classes at UTRGV while in high school. Because of this opportunity, I was able to finish my undergraduate studies in about two years. Despite the pandemic, I earned my master’s degree with UTRGV just in time to enroll in the then newly established mathematics PhD program, the first one offered by UTRGV. Since the beginning of my graduate studies, my focus has been in mathematical physics, leaning heavily towards fluid dynamics. More recently, I have been incorporating machine learning techniques in my research to aid in the solutions of shallow water wave equations.
